One of North America’s great unspoiled wildernesses, the Canadian Rockies offer bountiful rewards for lovers of the outdoors as you discover on this 11-day adventure, shared by no more than 24 fellow travelers.  Your nature-focused itinerary brings you face to face with some truly stunning sights, beginning in majestic Glacier National Park, where you board a legendary Red Jammer sightseeing bus.  Continue on to Whitefish, Montana, an authentic mountain town, to hike scenic Whitefish Trail, then savor the striking scenery en route to world-famous Banff National Park.  Highlights in this world-famous park include visits to photogenic Lake Louise and a traverse of Athabasca Glacier in a special Ice Explorer vehicle.  Jasper National Park follows, where you admire dramatic Maligne Canyon and cruise cerulean Maligne Lake.  An expedition to Glacier Skywalk affords you spectacular views.  On your tour’s final full day, ride on the Banff Gondola to Sulphur Mountain’s 8,000-foot peak.

Phil Rundel
Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
Phil Rundel is Distinguished Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Director of the Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden. His fields of research and teaching at UCLA include Conservation Biology, Fire Ecology, and Ecosystem Ecology. He has an undergraduate degree from Pomona College and a Master’s and Ph.D. from Duke University. He is a fifth generation Californian with a long career that has focused on the ecology, biodiversity, and resource management of forest ecosystems across the Western United States. Over this period he has worked broadly as a consultant with National Park Service staff in developing scientifically based programs of resource management.
