Arch Getty
Department of History
Arch Getty is Distinguished Professor of History at UCLA. He specializes in the history of Russia and Eastern Europe. He has published six books and more than 50 articles. He has won teaching awards at two UC campuses, and in 2015 he presented the UCLA Faculty Research Lecture. He has travelled extensively in Eastern Europe, and has lectured in Vienna, Prague, and Budapest. As his bathroom scale testifies, he knows his way around Vienna pastries and Hungarian sausages. His research has been supported by the American Council of Learned Societies, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Fulbright Foundation, the International Research and Exchanges Board and the University of California Humanities Research Institute. He has been a John Simon Guggenheim Fellow, a visiting scholar at the Sorbonne in Paris and visiting professor at Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
