Efrain Kristal
Department of Comparative Literature
Efrain Kristal is a Distinguished Professor and Chair of UCLA's Department of Comparative Literature. He works on topics in Spanish, French, German and Italian, and in the philosophy of art. He is the author of over one hundred scholarly articles and several books. He received his Ph.D. from Stanford University, was a Fellow of the Centre of Philosophy, Literature and the Arts at the University of Warwick, and he spent the 2019-2020 academic year as a Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Study in Berlin. He is currently writing a book on the Philosopher Peter Sloterdijk who taught at the University of Vienna, and has recently lectured in Sweden, Romania and Bulgaria. For his notable efforts, Efrain was awarded the UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award, and was invited to deliver the distinguished UCLA Faculty Research Lecture.
