Exploring Australia & New Zealand

OCT. 20 - NOV. 10, 2021
Cairns, Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, Sydney, Christchurch, Mount Cook, Queenstown, Rotorua, Auckland

The Lands Down Under and small group touring – limited to 24 travelers – make for a perfect travel experience on this journey from Australia’s spectacular Great Barrier Reef, the storied Outback, and Ayers Rock to sophisticated Sydney; from New Zealand’s towering Mt. Cook and breathtaking Milford Sound to high-spirited Queenstown and nautical Auckland.  The 22-day journey begins in Cairns with a ride on the historic railway to Kuranda, then a descent via a Skyrail gondola.  Swim and snorkel at the colossal Great Barrier Reef on a day-long excursion.  Reaching Alice Springs, embark on an Aboriginal “dreamtime” tour to learn about the Walpiri tribespeople’s ancient culture.  See the Anzac Hill Monument to Australian and New Zealand soldiers, and enjoy a traditional “bush” dinner.  At Ayers Rock, watch the sun set over this fabled sandstone monolith.  Highlights during a three-night stay in Sydney include a catamaran cruise around Sydney Harbour; Featherdale Wildlife Park where koalas roam free; touring of the iconic Opera House; and ample leisure time to enjoy the city’s beaches and excellent restaurants.  Discover Christchurch, New Zealand’s “Garden City,” on a city tour, then spend two nights in splendid Mt. Cook National Park.  On a day-long Milford Sound excursion, cruise through the stunning fjords.  Explore Queenstown, New Zealand’s “adventure capital,” taking another scenic cruise to a working ranch.  In geothermal Rotorua, experience Maori culture at a traditional hangi dinner.  Celebrate your journey’s end after seeing Auckland’s highlights.  Enjoy more time in the “City of Sails” on an optional 3-day/2-night post-tour extension.
