George Dutton
Center for Southeast Asian Studies
George Dutton is Director of the UCLA Center for Southeast Asian Studies and Professor in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures. He is a specialist in Vietnamese history and teaches courses on premodern and modern Vietnam at UCLA. He is co-editor of the definitive volume on Vietnamese historical texts, Sources of Vietnamese Tradition. He is also the author of two books on early modern Vietnamese history, The Tay Son Uprising: Society and Rebellion in Eighteenth-Century Vietnam (Hawaii Press, 2006) and A Vietnamese Moses Philiphê Bỉnh and the Geographies of Early Modern Catholicism (UC Press, 2016). He has been visiting and conducting research in Vietnam since 1990.
